This week we interviewed our customer, Princess of Tea Cosplay! See more of her work via Facebook!
Q: When did you start cosplaying, and what got you started?
A: I’ve been going to conventions ever since I was a little girl and I’ve always loved seeing all the people dress up as all my favorite characters. I had always been interested in cosplay because my passion has always been acting and cosplay is very similar to me in that regard. Eventually, about 8 years ago, my brother only agreed to buy my next convention badge if I dressed up, and I haven’t stopped ever since!
Q: What is your favorite part of the costume-making process?
A: My favorite part is getting to work on something new each time. I don’t do very well with repetitive projects over a long period of time, because I really enjoy getting to learn something new with each project that I take on. My other favorite part is picking out fabric! I tend to geek out over super nice fabric and I can gush about it for days.
Q: Which costume are you most proud of?
A: It’s so hard to choose! I have a lot of favorites, but I think I’d have to say Sakizou’s Opal. It’s one of my most elaborate costumes and taught me a lot of new skills, like hat making! It also was the first costume I ever entered in a cosplay contest, where I got Best in Show. I was really shocked, but I’m very grateful, because I’ve met so many great people and dear friends thanks to that experience.
Q: Do you have a favorite Arda Wig style and/or color?
A: I have a tendancy to do curly haired characters, so I really like Arda’s Luthien! I recently bought Arda’s Classic Color Ring, and my favorite color is definitely Mako Green, I hope to use it sometime!
Q: What advice do you have for new cosplayers getting into the hobby?
A: Don’t worry so much about what people will think of your costume or how many people will recognize you. What’s important is cosplaying something you love and you will have fun no matter what, because you are doing it for you and you alone! When I started out I did pretty obscure characters, but I have no regrets about that because they were my all time favorite characters!
